Jeff Larson’s story on Marysville’s new team, the “Drakes” quoted Dan Flores who said Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig played at Bryant Field. They did not. They played at an old ball park on Third Street near Hust Brothers Auto Parts. In fact there is a plaque on the Hust Brothers building commemorating the event. The story is that Babe Ruth hit the longest home run ever in that game because the ball landed in a passing railroad car and was carried away.

This is a small point in the whole scheme of things but anyone interested in history knows how easily facts become distorted and can take a whole different turn.
