We wanted to take a little space to offer up our thanks and respect for all the organizations, churches, officials and plain old volunteers who are involved in organizing and conducting special programs and services this long weekend for Memorial Day.
Our territory – Sutter, Yuba and Colusa counties – is populated by great Americans, proud of their country, their diversity and heritage, and appreciative of those who serve and especially those who gave all in service. There are numerous events planned through Monday to pay tribute to those who died while in service. There’s sure to be an event close by, wherever you live in the area – check out our Memorial Day calendar elsewhere in this edition.
There are so many observances that it should be fairly convenient for anyone to participate in some way. If not? Think about setting aside a little time for reflection on Monday ... and meditate a bit about the sacrifices made by citizens who lost their lives while in service to the United States.
We shouldn’t be so caught up in the day-to-day of our lives that we take for granted the various means by which we retain our freedom, including the men and women who serve in our military and the lives sacrificed for the cause. Give them a minute of your time. Or take a little longer and be part of a group that actively remembers.
