Team Coon Creek participants celebrate their finishes last weekend in Newman.

 

Team Coon Creek athletes competed in the fourth series CYSSA series trap tournament last weekend at the Newman Trap Club. 

The tournament hosted 140 athletes from high schools and gun clubs throughout Northern California.

Team Coon Creek had seven athletes make the podium taking home five first place medals, one second place medal and one third place medal.

Individual awards were as follows:

Rookie division: Robert Phiffer, first place, 86.

Intermediate entry division: Ethan Whiteaker, first place, 97; Sebastien Croteau, third place, 82.

Intermediate advanced division: Cole Kennedy, first place, 99; Gavin Damron, second place, 96.

JV division: Audric Scheidel, first place, 99.

Varsity division: Jace Garza, first place, 100. 

The Sutter County based nonprofit youth development organization is always pleased with its participants success, but holds strong to its main goal. 

“The program uses participation in the shooting sports to provide its participants with a positive, life enhancing experience,” said Allan Garza, director of Team Coon Creek. 

Team Coon Creek also saw impressive finishes at the CYSSA State Skeet championship. 

Holly MacLeod, Cory Walkers and Gavin Damron all finished as state champions in the Intermediate Advanced Squad division.
