The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox hit the field on Wednesday after two days off, but the boys in yellow picked up right where they left off as they defeated the Reno Rams by a final score of 10-5.

In the first inning, Yuba-Sutter jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after Brandon Motheral brought home Billy Ralston from third base on a sacrifice fly.

From there, Gold Sox starter Leighton Helleberg retired multiple batters going scoreless until the top of the third inning.

Reno would put a two-spot on the board after some small ball around the base path with walks and hard line drives to go up 2-1.

Luckily for the vast home crowd in attendance, Yuba-Sutter would respond with two runs of their own as Tyler Carpenter and Billy Ralston crossed home plate.

From there the Gold Sox would be battle tested again as Reno dropped another two-spot in the fourth inning to regain the lead.

After both teams traded scoreless innings the dam broke in the bottom of the seventh inning when Yuba-Sutter scored six runs to take the 9-4 lead and ultimately the win after adding on another score in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Gold Sox had notable performances from multiple players including the following:

-Brandon Motheral, who finished the night with two RBI, four hits, two runs and one walk.

-Tyler Carpenter who tallied two hits, two runs and one RBI.

-Billy Ralston, who recorded three hits, three runs and one RBI.

-Leighton Helleberg, who threw five strikeouts and allowed only two earned runs.

The Gold Sox will be back at it today when they take on the Reno Rams for game two of the four game series. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Colusa Casino Stadium.
