The Marysville High School track and field team competed in the Pioneer Valley League championship track meet on Thursday at Bear River. Qualifiers from this meet will compete in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 and 5 championships next week.
Overall team scores for the Indians were: Varsity boys in second place with 105 points; Varsity girls in fourth place with 69.5 points and the frosh/soph boys in first place with 205 points.
Notable finishes from the varsity boys team included the following: Gary Walker, first place in the 300 meter hurdles (41.99), Tim Spence, first place in the shot put (50-10.50), Jose Aceves, first place in the discus throw (142-10) and Enrique Lara, second place in the high jump (5-11).
As for the varsity girls, the following participants had standout finishes: Briana Berard, second place in the 300 meter hurdles (49.49), Kamaria Richardson, second place in the high jump (5-09), Tayler Freeman, second place in the shot put (30-07.50) and Star Miller, fourth place in the pole vault (6-11).
The Marysville track and field team will be competing in the section championships on Wednesday at Chavez High School in Stockton.
Marysville 8, Lindhurst 2
The Indians softball team closed out its regular season by tallying its 20th win of the season when it took down rival Lindhurst by a six-run margin.
Leading the offensive effort for Marysville was Maya Larsen, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a double as well as Madison Powell and Veda Smith who each went 2-for-4 on the day.
In the circle, Birdie Galaviz pitched a complete game.
Marysville softball (20-2-1, 10-0) will await to hear whether it’s placed into division four or five for postseason play.
