Last weekend the River Valley High School track and field team was well represented at the California State Championships in Clovis when the Falcons’ own John Kroeger finished in third place overall with a long jump mark of 23’ 6.25”.
“After the state meet last year my goal was to finish in the top–6 this year, so being in the top–3 was really exciting,” said Kroeger. “I feel like all of my work this season paid off and my season went better than I could have hoped. I’m really glad I could represent River Valley well and I am very thankful for my coaches, especially Rob Cates, and the support of my family and friends,” Kroeger added.
The meet kicked off last Friday as 27 jumpers were given three preliminary jumps. After the prelims, 12 jumpers advanced to the finals on Saturday. Kroeger’s best jump of the weekend came on his fifth attempt in the finals which would go on to earn him the third place medal.
“I’m proud of how John sets expectations for himself and maintains focus and works so hard to achieve them. He worked all year, training summer, fall, and winter to get to this point. He studies the sport and evaluates technique and continually learns in order to improve his jumping and speed,” said John’s parent and coach, Marie Kroeger.
Next up for the star at River Valley High will be the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. on June 16.
