Members of Team Coon Creek celebrate their awards from earlier this month in Stockton.

The youth shotgun sports team Coon Creek took its talents to Stockton earlier this month for the junior and senior CYSSA State Trap Championship tournament. Coon Creek finished with three individual state titles in hand.

In the intermediate division, Ethan Whiteaker shot an impressive 196 to win a state championship while, Audric Scheidel broke 194 targets to take the junior varsity division state title.

Lastly, Jace Garza hit 195 targets to earn a spot in a four-way shoot-off for the varsity division championship. Garza then shot a perfect 25-straight targets in the first round of the shoot-off to be crowned state champion.

“These kids worked hard all year long,” said coach Allan Garza. “They were definitely put to the test against some great shooting teams, but they didn’t quit and it shows by their results.”

Team Coon Creek will now prepare for the YSSF U.S. Open in Las Vegas on July 8.
