The Acting Company production of “The Merry Wives of Windsor” is scheduled for a series of performances from March 29-April 21 on the main stage.
The tale unfolds in the sleepy hamlet of Windsor Park, Ga., preceding the annual Order of the Garter golf tournament.
This is where Sir John Falstaff enters the scene. Having fallen into a state of near-poverty and looking to climb back up the social ladder, Falstaff hatches a convoluted plan to woo two wealthy local wives, Mistress Page and Mistress Ford, simultaneously.
Upon discovering his ruse, the two merry wives concoct a plan of their own to punish Falstaff for his trickery and hubris. The ensuing whirlwind of mistaken identity, romantic deceit and emotional and physical duels churns out high comedy with a distinct Shakespearean flair.
Directors Lauren and Matt Coats have chosen to transplant Shakespeare’s story from the 16th century to 1930s Georgia.
The cast includes locals Shawn Measles as Falstaff, Christian Bertch, John Buffey, Lauren Coats, Matt Coats, Shannon Doscher, John Elliott, Hailyn Marinsik, Emily McClard, Alicea Nunes, Maysann Phelps, Tanda Phelps, Michelle Rewerts, Jamine Smythe, Alex Yamada, James Suterland, Alex Yamada, Terri Zepp and Tyler Zepp.
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., March 29-April 21 at The Acting Company, 815 B St. Yuba City. Tickets are $20. Opening weekend discounts are $18 for seniors, students and military families. Tickets are $18 per person for scheduled groups of six or more.
