Weekend chock-full of events

Airplanes and hydroplanes are on the move in Yuba County this weekend, with more leisurely events also taking part in the Yuba-Sutter area.

Not part of Independence Day activities, with July 4 on Wednesday this year, the events are a good head start in preparation for the national holiday.

Activities today:

• Yuba City Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon on Center Street, off Plumes Street, Cuba City.

• Golden West EAA Regional Fly-in and Air Show gates open at 8 a.m., air show 1 to 3:30 p.m., at Yuba County Airport, 1364 Sky Harbor Drive, Olivehurst. Admission is $10 to $15, adult; $5 youth; free, 7 years and under.

• American Power Boat Association hydroplane races from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Ellis Lake, Marysville.

• Reilly’s Rib Showdown at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 807, 5477 Feather River Blvd., Linda. Sponsored by Frank C. Reilly Chapter, E. Clampus Vitus and Sutter North Hospice.

• “Mary’s Little Lamb” at 1 and 3 p.m. at The Acting Company, 815 B St., Yuba City. Tickets: $5. Call 751-1100.

• Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox vs. Southern California Fire at 7 p.m. at All Seasons RV Stadium, 14th and B streets, Marysville. Tickets are $5 to $10.

• “Bye Bye Birdie” 8 p.m. at The Acting Company, 815 B St., Yuba City. Tickets are $15.

• Ninth annual Tian Da Melia from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at River Valley High School, 801 El Margarita Road, Yuba City. For women only. Sponsored by U.S.A. Punjabi Women’s Cultural Organization. Free admission.

• APBA hydroplane races from noon to 5 p.m. on Ellis Lake, Marysville.

• Bluegrass Festival and Peddler’s Fair from noon to 8 p.m. at the Brownsville Amphitheater on Ponderosa Way. Cost is $10.

• “Bye Bye Birdie” at 2 p.m. at The Acting Company, 815 B St., Yuba City. Tickets are $15. Call 751-1100.

• Three-band concert from 6 to 9 p.m. at Heavenly Daze CDs and Records’ parking lot, 565 Palora Ave., Yuba City. Free.

• The Whitewater Blues Band at 7 p.m. on the lawn at Yuba City City Hall, Butte House Road and Civic Center Boulevard.

Part of Summer Concert series. Sponsored by Yuba City Parks and Recreation Department and KUBA AM1600.
